Port win marred by Gray’s injury in milestone match

Port Adelaide‘s win over the Gold Coast Suns has come at a major cost with veteran Robbie Gray suffering a knee injury in what was his 250th career match.

Despite losing Gray in the second quarter, the Power proved to be far too strong for a lacklustre Suns side, with Ken Hinkley’s men running out 12. 9. (81) to 4. 7. (31) winners at Metricon Stadium.

The incident occurred when Gray copped a knock to his left knee from Suns veteran Brandon Ellis when contesting a ball in dispute on the wing.

The 33-year-old forward said he immediately felt the pain, but was unsure just how much damage he had done to his knee. He was seen with his left leg in a brace after the match.

“Obviously these things happen in footy,” he told Fox Footy.

“It’s a shame it was today, but these things happen and the boys put in a strong performance and we were able to come away with a good win.

“I was just involved in a contest, I haven’t seen the vision or anything yet, but I knew I was in a bit of strife straight away, there was a bit of pain there.

“We’ll get it scanned and we’ll know the severity from there. Hopefully it’s not too bad and I can get back before the end of the season.”
