Youngster’s hat-trick inspires Panthers romp

Against the team he debuted against with a historic four-tries, Panthers Youngster Charlie Staines has bamboozled the Sharks yet again, notching his second hat-trick in two games against the struggling club.

Staines’ hat-trick was the icing on the cake of a 48-0 romp at the foot of the mountains as Ivan Cleary’s Panthers notched their 26th win on the trot.

That’s more wins than a regular NRL season has games, and the 2020 runner-ups show no sign of slowing down.

Halves Nathan Cleary and Jarome Luai were at their best, orchestrating the thrashing that would ultimately leave the Sharks scoreless.

In his short NRL career, Staines has now scored seven tries in two games against the Sharks.

It’s a disaster result for Cronulla’s interim coach Josh Hannay who is yet to notch a win since being thrown into the hot-seat in the wake of John Morris’ departure.

The Panthers big win follows that of reigning premiers the Melbourne Storm who dismantled South Sydney 50-0 last night.

It highlights a worrying trend in the game, with pundits having raised concern over the increasing number of blow-outs creeping into the game.
