Rising Australian motorsport star Oscar Piastri has unveiled his own ANZAC Day tribute during a test session in Spain, commemorating those whose sacrificed so much for our freedom.
The 20-year-old from Melbourne was in action for his Prema team at Barcelona, on the third and final day of the F2 test.
Piastri, who won one of the three races on his F2 debut last month in Bahrain, had a special tribute on his car on ANZAC Day.
“As an Aussie abroad, I’m proud to carry the ANZAC Rising Sun on my race car during testing today in Barcelona to pay tribute to those who sacrificed so much for our freedoms,” he tweeted.
Piastri set the second fastest time of the day, 1:28.105 seconds, just 0.190 seconds off the pace set by Brazilian Felipe Drugovich.
The Australian sits fourth in the championship after the Bahrain round. The championship continues in just under four weeks time in Monaco.
“It was a bit of an up-and-down test which started quite down I would say, but we had a very successful last day,” Piastri said.
“We rectified some of the things that weren’t as we wanted and our pace got very strong, so it was nice to end on a good note like that.
“We tested quite a lot of things. Some worked, some didn’t, but I’m happy that we found a good solution and we seem quick.
“It’s positive we made the most of this last chance we had to test for this season.”
